Where to stay in Busan: Haeundae, Gwangalli, Seomyeon or Nampo-dong?
The best base is not simply the most famous one; it is the place that minimizes the trip you will repeat every day. Choose Haeundae or Gwangalli for a beach-led stay, Seomyeon for a split east–west itinerary, and Nampo-dong for Busan Station and the old downtown. On the official map, Haeundae, Gwangan and Seomyeon are on Line 2; Nampo, Jagalchi and Busan Station are on Line 1; the lines meet at Seomyeon.[1]
The 30-second decision
• Haeundae: broad beach and eastern-coast days; check the transfer to Busan Station and old downtown.
• Gwangalli: bridge night views and evening beach walks; check the real walk to Gwangan Station.
• Seomyeon: easiest rail interchange for mixed districts; it is not beachfront.
• Nampo-dong: Busan Station, markets and old downtown; check hills and luggage access.
Haeundae: make the beach the main event
Visit Busan’s official long-stay itinerary pairs Haeundae lodging with the beach, Dongbaek coastal trail and Mipo.[2] It is intuitive if you want sand walks morning and evening and are concentrating on the eastern coast. The same itinerary gives a Busan Station route via Line 2 and a transfer to Line 1 at Seomyeon, so frequent KTX or old-downtown days deserve an extra transfer check.[2]

Do not assume every Haeundae-gu address is walkable to the sand. With luggage, verify the door-to-platform route, slopes, steps and elevators.
Gwangalli: keep the bridge view close
Gwangalli’s defining advantage is the beach-facing view of Gwangan Bridge after dark; Visit Busan presents it as a night-sea setting.[3]

Gwangan Station is on Line 2, but beachfront accommodation is not necessarily beside the station.[1] Check the actual walk through streets and alleys, especially with a suitcase.
Seomyeon: divide your days across Busan
Seomyeon is the Line 1/Line 2 interchange.[1] That makes it a practical rail base when some days point east to the beaches and others south toward Busan Station and Nampo. Visit Busan also treats Seomyeon and nearby Jeonpo as downtown territory with café streets and varied food.[2][3]

The trade-off is clear: it is not a sea-view base, so daily beach trips exchange doorstep atmosphere for network convenience.
Nampo-dong: prioritize the station and old downtown
Nampo and Jagalchi share Line 1 with Busan Station.[1] They suit days built around Jagalchi Market, Gukje Market, BIFF Square and Yongdusan Park; official tourism material links Nampo lodging with markets and the Busan Tower nightscape.[2][6]

Yongdusan and some old-downtown streets involve uphill walking.[6] Confirm whether the accommodation is toward a hillside road and whether your station exit offers a step-free path.
Airport and Busan Station logic
For rail access from Gimhae Airport, use the Airport station on the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail Transit and connect at Sasang to Metro Line 2.[1][5] This makes the Line 2 pattern for Seomyeon, Gwangan and Haeundae easy to read; Nampo adds the Line 1 transfer at Seomyeon. Busan Station is on Line 1, making Nampo direct, Seomyeon same-line, and the beach districts normally a Seomyeon transfer.[1] Recheck airport buses, operating notices and last trains on the airport and operators’ official pages on travel day.[4][5]

Pick the journey you will repeat: Haeundae for a broad-beach trip, Gwangalli for bridge-lit evenings, Seomyeon for a mixed-city itinerary, or Nampo-dong for station-and-market days.
